I have to hold myself to a higher standard." "It's a different playing field, because as a corporal I'm looked upon and relied on to act as a lot higher than what my rank is. "I wasn't really relied on heavily as I am now coming to this MOS," she told. Anjelica Parra, 21, a Motor Transportation Marine who has the free MOS, said she knew right away she wanted to make the move once it became an option. And they estimate some 35 will make that decision.Ĭpl. The roughly 60 Marines who already have MISO as a free MOS have the first opportunity to join the new full-time career field, officials said. While the first additional MISO Marines will start arriving this summer, the plan is to have the elements established at each MIG by 2022, McClane said. A separate element will remain at MCIOC, focusing primarily on supporting special operations. Under the new plan, a company-sized MISO element will be set up under each of the three recently established Marine Information Groups on the East Coast and West Coast in the Pacific. What's worse, McClane said, officials noticed that a number of MISO Marines would opt to leave the service soon after their tour, preferring to practice their MISO skills in the civilian sector rather than returning to their original military job.įor the Marine Corps, this meant not only that MISO Marines couldn't develop further in their skill sets, but also that the time and money invested in these troops - reportedly more than $600,000 per Marine including clearances and a specialized training course at Fort Bragg, North Carolina - would not yield long-term gains. "There was no real return on investment," he said. Typically, a Marine deployed with a MISO element and then returned to his or her original unit, with no option to continue in the field, McClane said. "It might be different in parts of Africa versus eastern Europe."įor Marines, MISO is currently a free, or additional, MOS, meaning troops come from other specialties to spend time in the community. "It all depends on the target audience, how they receive communication," McClane said of the methods that might be employed to influence mindsets and decision-making. "I think that's a good assumption, absolutely," he said.Īs the Marine Corps looks to the future, troops may also find themselves fighting in increasingly complex battlespaces and in a broad range of environments. While MISO or PsyOps capabilities are not new to the battlefield, McClane acknowledged that reviews of recent conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan may have caused military brass to realize more effective use of the skill set could have yielded different outcomes. "The understanding of the cognitive dimension, how to affect and change behaviors and adversary target audience decision-making where you may not even have to fire a shot - you may be able to influence your adversary and reach that end state without doing that." Above all, they are part of the Marine Corps family, and this camaraderie, as well as their leadership training and experience leading Marines, lasts a lifetime." speaks a lot about adversary … perceptions, attitudes, beliefs, and how that's important," McClane said. During active service, officers and their families have access to a wide range of personal and professional resources such as healthcare, travel, advanced education, and financial benefits. Promotions are based on time in rank, successful performance in assignments, and appropriate education. Officers also attend career-level schools like Expeditionary Warfare School and may seek advanced degrees. After their first tour, they serve in non-MOS-related positions such as recruiting duty. Officers serve in the operating forces, leading Marines in their primary MOS. They then attend The Basic School, followed by specialized training that prepares them for their Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). Marine Officer Candidates earn their commissions after graduating from college and completing a program such as Platoon Leaders Class or Officer Candidate Course.

Ben, I'm curious for your perspective on sort of the pressure to scale. When you put the two together, it's a company that is not only strong financially, but is strong in its work, strong in its culture and we're excited to plow forward.īOORSTIN: Yeah. We program things in different ways but between the two of us, we have the best portfolio in media, touching every conceivable content category, doing it at scale, doing it across every conceivable modern distribution platform from Roku to TikTok to podcasts to websites to the biggest streaming services. We want to treat our employees and our teams well and we want to be ambitious and be successful. Both of these companies have, we have a lot in common even though we're different. And then we got to talking and we realized that the time was right now. It's a, it's a small group of media entrepreneurs that have emerged in the last decade or so and we have helped each other out in a support group. Ben and I have known each other for a while. We couldn't be more excited to announce this today. JIM BANKOFF: Well, first of all, thank you. Why did it feel like now's the time when it was necessary to do this kind of a deal? Also, a quick note that NBCUniversal is an investor in Vox Media. Joining us now to discuss the deal is Vox Media Chair and CEO Jim Bankoff and Group Nine Founder and CEO Ben Lerer. The deal is on pace to close in early 2022, pending regulatory approval. Under the all stock deal, Vox will hold 75% ownership of the company with the remaining 25% going to Group Nine. JULIA BOORSTIN: Vox Media is set to merge with Group Nine, parent company of brands such as NowThis, PopSugar and Thrillist. Personal Loans for 670 Credit Score or Lowerįollowing is the unofficial transcript of a CNBC exclusive interview with Vox Media Chair & CEO Jim Bankoff and Group Nine Media Founder & CEO Ben Lerer on CNBC's "TechCheck" (M-F, 11AM-12PM ET) airing today, Tuesday, December 14 th. Personal Loans for 580 Credit Score or Lower We are grateful for our Vox Media Union, organized with the Writers Guild of America, East.Best Debt Consolidation Loans for Bad Credit Our union knows the greatest asset of Vox Media is its workers. We won strong severance in our contract, and we are working as a union to further protect our impacted colleagues.Ĭyclical layoffs hurt our brands, hurt our business prospects, hurt our credibility, hurt our values, and hurt our people. We are committed to fighting for those who were affected by these layoffs, and holding management accountable for their actions. We are furious at how this will impact our colleagues who have lost their jobs and remain concerned about the long-term morale of those who remain. These cuts come after multiple rounds of layoffs in 2022, in which we lost many valued colleagues. We are coming off of three years of working in tough conditions - through a pandemic with limited resources - and the way our colleagues were treated today is unconscionable. Our committee spent Friday morning hearing from members of the Vox Media Union as they waited for emails to let them know if they would still have a job. The Vox Media Union organization with the Writers Guild of America, East, issued a statement on Friday evening addressing the layoffs. Bankoff reiterated that to manage through the downturn “operational discipline and strategic focus will be key to Vox Media’s success.” I really have two (2) issues: 1) Find and eliminate the duplicate photo files and 2) Re-organize my disk folders to a uniform YYYY-MM format. I truly apprecaite any and all suggestions for better solutions!! I would then have to resolve the duplicate issues by maybe manually examining the pictures by name against the already loaded ones and import the ones deemed not to be a duplicate of an existing picture. This does assume I've set up the LR import process to use the desired YYYY-MM directory format. I then remove all the existing dated directories, delete the existing Catalog and IMPORT all the photo files back into LR letting LR create the directories according to their repsective 'Photo taken' dates taken form the file metadata. What I'm suggesting is to create a holding directory to store ALL the photo files with a separate directory for the duplicate names to be resolved later. So I have two (2) directories in many cases that represent the same timer period, say January 2008. I'm looking at a total of just over 7,000 picture files and due probably to my both inconsistent and uneducated methods of importing the pictures from both my iPhone and from my DSLR I have created a series of directories on my hard drive that looks like this: I'm also sure, as you suggested, that I have duplicate file names storing different pictures. I know I have duplicate files of the same picture because I've examined a few. I've created a bit of a monster for myself and not sure how it happened. I understand the issues with using Windows Explorer in moving picture files around as you suggested. I hope I've given you thoughts to work with. ALWAYS!Īs far as finding duplicates, here are some thoughts on this:Īnd you may wish to get some plugins for that. So always move files and folders around inside the confines of LRC. It is not all that hard to reconnect them but it can be tedious and wastes your time. When you move things around in Explorer or the Finder, LRC doesn't know where they went to so you end up with thumbnails with exclamation points letting you know that LRC doesn't know where the original file is. LRC doesn't really care for where they are so long as IT knows where they are. Sorry for writing so loud but the whole success of LRC is based on LRC knowing where files are. Next: DO NOT USE EXPLORER OR THE FINDER TO HELP YOU MOVE IMAGES THAT ARE IN LRC. If a photo in each of those two events have the same name, they are probably not duplicates. That is one folder for the trip to the Grand Canyon and another folder for Aunt Maude's wedding. One way around this is if you have also used folders for events to contain the images. This occurs when you've taken a whole lot of photos and you are then going on the same number but the 2nd or 3rd time around. One thing to watch out for is duplicate names with different images. When you say "Directories," I'm assuming you mean Catalogs? Please verify that. The idea of "Trump stocks" and "Biden stocks" remains very real. Presidential elections can and will continue to have more specific consequences for the market's various sectors and indices, depending on each party's agenda and how much of Washington they control. Important to remember is that all of this information is looking at the performance of the broader stock market. Interestingly, international equities also outperform under Democrats, though emerging-markets stocks have the edge under GOP presidents. But clearly, American stocks have also done well under Trump. equities have grown 14.5% on average while Democrats control the White House, according to YCharts data, against just 3% under Republican control. Since Bill Clinton's inauguration in 1993, U.S. This trend is even more pronounced in recent decades. "The average Republican administration over that time period saw gains of 3.5% per year, while the Democrats saw gains of almost twice as much, at 6.7% per year." "When we do see a political influence, it is not what might be expected," writes Brad McMillan, chief investment officer for Commonwealth Financial Network. Conventional wisdom might suggest that Republicans, who are supposedly more business-friendly than the Democrats, would be more beneficial for your stock holdings. You might feel strongly about one party or the other when it comes to your politics, but when it comes to your portfolio, it doesn't matter much which party wins the White House.īespoke Research shows that since 1900, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has gained 4.8% annually. 19 of 2020, stocks have lost 2.5%, using the DJIA as a proxy. Overall I'd say my experience with it was very much like games used to feel back when I was less informed about them and they contained more wonder and I was excited to play them. But the calm ambient tracks helped me remain in a fairly relaxed state where I was able to keep working through every challenge and concept at a comfortable pace. I've felt that kind of technology is very sadly underutilized in anything, really. I'm sure he used at least one binaural audio track for one of the rooms which was neat to experience. Thanks to the two detachable straps, you can carry the bag by hand, over the shoulder, or wear crossbody. The bag’s price is great, $395, and the Pillow Tabby merges an archival 1970s Coach design with a modern and playful new look. There’s the pale pistachio, a creamy green hue, or ice purple, an enchanting purple color. I am down to two colorways, both of which I love, and I think this bag looks great in color. So much so that I need to add one to my collection. I love seeing it in the wild and seeing other people with theirs, and it’s a bag that holds a little piece of my handbag brain space. The Tabby Keeps Me Coming BackĮnter the Coach Pillow Tabby, a bag we’ve discussed often (Kaitlin has her own and reviewed it here), to which I continue to return. This is a brand that is dear to my heart, that sparked my love and interest in the designer bag world, and no matter what my specific style liking is at any point, Coach will always be a brand I come back to. It’s a truck, so you never know when it might show up in your hood.If you’ve been around here for a while, you’ve probably come across the story of me sharing that my first bag that started it all was Coach. Don’t worry that it’s actually located in Albuquerque, NM. Suggests no company should rely solely on GMB, especially for leads.Īmong the points to his story: "If you are looking for a great restaurant in Fawn Creek Township, KS, Google recommends It worked, in terms of getting the company off the suspended list - but it was still located in Kansas.Īs of today, the company’s safely back in Pleasanton, California, but Shotland Saldana’s request basically said the same thing although a bit more forcefully, but he also added: "This is our corporate listing and it must be reinstated ASAP!" I deleted the category so please un-suspend us. Shotland’s request went something like this: “Hey GMB, I added a new service category and got suspended. When Shotland didn’t get quick results, he turned to Steven Saldana, LSG’s GMB problem-solver, to ‘SEO Agency’ must be on the double-secretĭo-not-use list because as soon as I added it, our listing got suspended.” “While in there, for some reason, I decided to add “SEO agency” as a Business Category. Now, if you were going for a simple, realistic car building/ testing game, then you've done well.īut here is a list of 5 things that would only make the game better. This a great game, although I know some things that could only make it greater. Having said that, due to the nature of the off-road racing, the keyboard isn't nearly as annoying to use as a road racing game for the time being. This is on the Dev's ToDo list, so check the details and discussions to see if it's been implemented when you read this if controller support is a must-have). GUI needs an update the menus and buttons look a bit like an old Windows 95 strategy game or something. Based on my framerates, this game could increase its textures and add some better shaders without being a hinderance to even mid-level PCs. 3-window modelling space is a great idea and works very well to let you see what you're doing. Very familiar GUI/controls to anybody who has used a CAD program before. Level of "OCD" is up to you you can build a car pretty quick (or customize a default or steam Workshop car) and get racing, or spend hours tweaking every little aspect and getting things just right to shave a second or two off your laps. Custom maps available, though the standard map has a lot of different terrain to get you going. Best integration with the Steam Workshop that I've seen in-game. Excellent physics modelling everything behaves how you should expect it to, and behaves accurately. Virtually bug free, which is fantastic for early-access. It's great for anyone who's been into those bridge building games, or physics based games, or even just racing/off road car games. Very good game, and the developer is constantly working on it (unlike, it seems, many other early-access games). Please do not buy this game if you are afraid of complex designs or documentation to read. The game uses a real soft-body physics, where beams can stretch or compress. It is not a game where you connect two blocks and get a working part. Build deformable cars.Ĭreate and share your vehicles, tracks and maps.
The Red Sox then came home to face the undefeated Orioles. However, the Sox lost the third game of the series as two runs given up by Steven Wright in the first inning proved to make all the difference as the Red Sox failed to score 6+ runs in a game for the first time this season. The next day, the Red Sox tagged knuckleballer R. In the series opener, Joe Kelly was rocked for 7 earned runs in 3 innings, leaving the Red Sox in a big hole due to Josh Donaldson's grand slam, but Brock Holt would hit a grand slam of his own and the Sox would win the game after a furious comeback effort. The April 7 game was postponed due to rain, and rescheduled for August 15. The series in Cleveland ended on a sour note after Red Sox reliever Junichi Tazawa let up a game-winning home run to former Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli, who was influential in the Sox's 2013 World Series run. Although not a save situation, Kimbrel made his Red Sox debut in the ninth and shut the door, allowing a walk and striking out two. Junichi Tazawa and Koji Uehara retired all batters they faced in the seventh and eighth respectively and with Craig Kimbrel warming in the bullpen and Dustin Pedroia on first, David Ortiz hit his fifth opening day home run of his career, extending the lead to 6–2. Travis Shaw took third on a Blake Swihart ground out and scored on a wild pitch by Corey Kluber. In the sixth, on a Travis Shaw single, Hanley Ramírez took third base from first, and scored on a Brock Holt blooper to left field. In a four-hit inning, Cleveland brought two runners home and the game was tied at two in the bottom of the fourth. Mookie Betts went deep in the third inning, scoring Jackie Bradley Jr. He became the fifth Red Sox pitcher to win an opening day game in his debut for the ball club and the first since Pedro Martínez did it in 1998. On April 5, in his Red Sox debut, David Price struck out ten Indians batters and earned the win. The game was called two hours prior to game time. The opening day game, scheduled for April 4, was postponed to April 5, due to cold weather.
